  • Workplace protocols in place that would include disease surveillance and prevention of Medical surveillance

  • Symptom monitoring and management

  • Reporting authorities and emergency contact details

 

Module 4: How to conduct a COVID-19 HIRA 

  • Dept of Employment and Labour Workplace – Preparedness for COVID-19

  • Performing a COVID-19 risk assessment

  • Select a suitable risk assessment report (practical workplace example included)

  • Practical explanations of the steps that needs to be followed during the HIRA.

  • How to classify the worker exposure in your organisation (including the identification of people who are at higher risk for severe Illness)

  • Identify appropriate measures to control the spread of COVID-19

  • Preventing spread of infection through the application of a COVID-19 hierarchy of control (Engineering controls, Administrative controls, Safe Work Practices and Personal Protective Equipment like gloves, masks and sanitisers)

  • Reporting of occupational injuries and diseases to the employer

  • Correct reporting of occupational diseases to the authorities

  • Record keeping requirements

  • Prescribed Investigation for COVID-19 incidents

 

Purpose of the Course: 

After the initial lockdown period, as part of South Africa’s risk adjusted strategy for economic activity, some employers would be allowed to reopen their businesses from the 1st of May 2020.

 

One of the critical requirements during the pandemic will be to provide and maintain a safe and healthy work environment. This course was compiled to assist employers in this regard. It will provide attendees with critical information in order to manage COVID-19 effectively within their particular work environment.
